The Gallagher family thanks you for allowing us to serve you.  We pride ourselves on providing a quality product, at a reasonable price in a timely manner.  You never have to pay more or wait longer for a quality product.  Our burgers are made of extra lean ground beef, ground fresh daily, and hand pattied.  Our chicken is ordered in fresh; hand trimmed and dusted then broasted to a golden brown.  We believe you will find it the freshest, most flavorful chicken around.   You never know what surprise you might find at the Outpost, from fresh baked chocolate cookies to home made chili.  We value our community relationships and look forward to visiting with neighbor and visitor alike.  Thanks for your support.  Let us know how we might improve our service to you our valued customer.

Even Dad gets in on the action once in a while.  Although working a full time job and commuting into Fargo each day, Mike enjoys the chance to “flip burgers”, “dust chicken” or follow Mary’s recipe for home-made coleslaw.  Others may hunt, fish or golf during their spare time, but Mike finds delight in helping to plan the menus, prepare the food and make sure that the bills get paid.  Most of all he enjoys working side by side with his wife and sons and with the wonderful and fun loving staff at The Outpost Drive In.

On occasion middle son Pat will offer his construction talents to make the Outpost Drive In a well maintained and attractive location to visit and work.  Grandma Mary and Grandpa Mike also delight in having their grandchildeen; Malachi, Xavier, Micah, Parker, Sadee, Nicki and Brittany come to visit.  As in any close family Grandma loves to offer her favorite delight and ice cream cone to the kids and Grandpa may dig in his pocket to find a few quarters to play the games.

those that ask to play the crane game or ride on the horse.

Oldest son, Joe welcomes the opportunity to prepare what he believes is the best burger in the area.  Joe looks for new ways to prepare menu selections that are affordable, tasty and prepared for those who are busy and on the go.  With over 70 different items on the menu and regular weekday specials it is difficult not to find something that will satisfy you for lunch or dinner or offer a great treat any time of the day.  After all, one of Joe’s favorite sayings is “Dad, do you notice that ice cream makes people happy”.

The Outpost Drive In is a family owned business.  During the business day and before opening and closing hours you will usually find members of the Gallagher family preparing for your visit or waiting to meet your specific needs.  Mary Gallagher delights in greeting area residents and in welcoming visitors and guests to our community.  She loves seeing the smiling faces of children who taste the sweet delight of a twist cone or

Norman County. We offer county and state maps as well as information on local and state facilities to visit and places to stay.

Kids love the crane game and pinball offered in our game room.  Guests often take on the challenge of the peg game at the front counter and kids are offered the opportunity to show their artistic talents with crayons and coloring pages.  Gguests enjoy scanning local newspapers including the Index, Valley Journal and Fargo Forum.  Travelers and local residents alike enjoy the chance to enjoy some of the wonderful spring and summer weather in the Red River Valley while enjoying a meal or ice cream treat in our outdoor seating areas.

There is plenty of room to park with sheltered parking for your vehicle under our canopy or under the shade of our pine trees.  Access is easy on and easy off Hwy 200 on the east edge of Ada, Minnesota.  We welcome recreational vehicle and truckers.  You will be surprised how easy it is to enjoy a quick meal or take a treat for the road.  We look forward to continuing The Outpost Drive In tradition long into the future.

building was so small that a few of the area residents will tell you how they used to cruise the lot with their cars circling the building.

The addition of the canopy on the east side of the building offers memories of the time of American Graffiti where car hops would bring meals, beverages and treats to the speaker stand where you had called in your order from the waiting menu board.  In fact, if you start digging around our shed in the back, you may still find one of these speakers and the tray rack.  Oh, if they could only talk, the fun stories they would tell.

As people wanted indoor seating a dining area was added.  It presently accommodates 46 people with 10 booths and four tables.  If you look closely at the roof, you may notice that a new roof has been built over what was the former flat roof.  The old Broasted Chicken sign is still on the flat roof, but no one can figure out how to get it out through the access door. You can still call in your order or stop at our counter to place an order.  The only change is today orders are usually called in by cell phones.  Orders are generally ready in about 10 minutes (maybe a little longer for the chicken), but you can get fast service whether you are on the way to the lake, traveling through town or have weekend guests.  We prepare meals for the field or for the trucker passing through.

The Outpost Drive In has a long standing tradition in the Ada Community and the surrounding area.  If you visit with members of the community and Norman County, you will find many residents got their first job at The Outpost Drive In.  Take a few minutes when visiting the Outpost to look at our facility and step back in time.  The main part of the building started as the typical ice cream shop.  In fact the

Youngest son, Mathew recently joined us after serving his country in the US Army.  Mat feels equally comfortable at the broiler, on the computer preparing our WEB site, or waiting on customers at the till.   He loves to find new ways to use technology to communicate with our guests and to share cooking ideas with Joe or plans for the future with Mom.

We’ve added a few things to The Outpost Drive In since we purchased it in 2005.  The wagon in the front was a father’s day gift to Mike.  The metal cowboy cutout is affectionately known as “Hank” and a visit to the dining room will offer you a chance to browse the history of Norman County through a collection of historical prints from activities and communities within the county.  We welcome you to spend some time and visting
